Modernisation Of an Islamic State- Qatar. (13.1.13)

Just saw a program on BBC World about the modernization of Qatar particularly Doha. I was there about 5 years ago and it was just a city which was beginning to start developing. The only impressive place we were take to was its Golf Club which was very impressive and modern, like a building transported from any Western golf club. Two years ago when I was on transit at Doha's airport on my way back from London I found myself already in a very modern terminal even though we were still transported to and from the Terminal by bus. I felt strange somehow as the only local people I met were the immigration and the customs officers. The rest of the workers were foreigners, the Indians, the Pakistanis and the Philipinos. I felt that I was not in an Arab State.
The Qatar flight was of a very high standard and in some ways better than our very own beloved MAS. The seats had good leg rooms, the food was tasty, the service was good, the toilets were clean, the movies choices were varied and they offered the necessary gifts of tooth brush, stocking and eye mask, ( which MAS) has stopped doing. Two years ago Qatar Air's toilets were constantly cleaned and dried compared to a few years back when I flew in it to Russia. Which means they have improved. And to top it all their flights are the cheapest then. So the Qatarans have been able to give us good value for our money.
This morning's BBC program focussed on the further growth of the economies in Doha. I was really impressed when two Qatar ladies were interviewed for their leadership in business and in politics. One was the CEO of luxury goods, business including pieces of jewellery which she inherited from her dad. The other one was a Director of another company. They looked and sound very confident and optimistic that more opportunities will be given to women. I just pray that the future lucky women will not abuse the opportunities given to them by starting to have different and not at tangent with our Quranic verses as has happened in other countries. Women can easily get so passionate with some female issues that they can begin to question Allah's Meanings in His Book. We can become freeble citizens but Allah's Words should not and could not be interpreted just to suit us.
From the photographs Doha is now a very modern city with all the infrastructures that go with a modern city. It must be expensive now to go for a holiday there.
What was encouraging was the stories of opportunities given to foreigners to start their own businesses. Two cases were taken as examples. One was an India driver who started work s a driver working 18hours a day to now owning his own driving business. Another was an Indian who started working in a jewellery shop to now owning his own shop, selling one necklace at 40,000/ dollars! Indian workers are on average paid 250 US dollars given free lodging in 8 to a room accommodation.  They said that Doha is their first choice of destination to work.
The latest news is that Qatar Air is going Global buying out shares in some European Airlines. We are sure going to hear more of Qatar's successes.
